Student working in a class

Our current ABC-funded activities in the Grangegorman area include:

  • Multidisciplinary Team
  • Doodle Den
  • ParentChild+
  • Training, Capacity Building, and Supports for Infant and Child Mental Health

This is a team of 2 Family Support Workers, 2 Play Therapist and 1 Art Therapist, who provide support to children and their families, focusing on those with high levels of need. In order to be accessible, the programme offers services in community spaces that are easier for families to access, including schools, early years providers and community organisations.

The Programme is run by Step by Step Child and Family Centre.

The Parent Child Plus Programme is a “learning through play experience” for parents and their pre-school children. It is designed to strengthen the natural bond between parent and child and to encourage a love of learning. The programme encourages the parent as the child’s first and best teacher. The 2-year programme prepares children for later success in school. In this programme home visitors from the area work with families, visiting twice a week to model appropriate play and interaction, to support families and learning and development to support school readiness by encouraging learning as a family.

The Programme is run by Daughters of Charity Community Services.

Doodle Den is an after-school literacy programme that uses an evidence-based curriculum. The programme is distinctive in that it focuses on improving children’s literacy through a wide range of activities in an after-school setting using a balanced mix of work, fun and games. It has a child, parent, and family component and places a strong emphasis on parental engagement. The programme takes place with senior infants’ classes, and there are currently four Doodle Den classes in the Grangegorman area.

The programme is run by Dublin 7 School Completion Programme.

This programme contains a wide range of supports and activities aimed to improve infant and child mental health. Programmes and activities under this programme include:

  • Referral Pathways: a transition programme that supports children as they move from Early Years Services to school, including ensuring that children can access appropriate services as needed, and linking Early Years Workers and Teachers, to enable children to be supported as they transition to school.
  • Incredible Years Dina and Small Group Dina Programme: a child training curriculum that targets 3 to 6 year olds to strengthen their social, emotional and academic competencies such as understanding and communicating feelings, managing anger, practising friendship and conversational skills, and appropriate classroom behaviours. It is delivered 2 to 3 times a week to a whole classroom in the format of 'Dina School'. It consists of 20 to 30 minute circle time lessons and will run for 20 to 22 weeks. Small Group Dina is for counselors, therapists, or special education teachers to treat children with conduct problems, ADHD, and internalizing problems.
  • Assessment of Needs: children in the area are supported to receive Assessments of Needs, to enable them to access appropriate needed supports.
