TU Dublin Ability Network celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2019

3 Dec, 2019

The TU Dublin Ability Network came together with other members of the University to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2019. The event was supported by the Directorate of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and was opened by Dr. Yvonne Galligan.

We saw the launch of the Inclusive Language Guide by Catherine Lynch, Access & Civic Engagement (representing Deirdre Staunton, Disability Support Services). The Inclusive Language Guidelines were developed to raise awareness around inclusive communication and to support people in using the correct language to foster equality and inclusion.

Sarah-Anne Kennedy from Library Services launched the Disability Awareness Collection which was developed thanks to funding from the EDI to support learning and research in the area of disabilities.

The event also saw St. Laurence’s Church and the surrounding buildings light up purple to celebrate the day which provided us with the opportunity to show our colours in support of people with disabilities. Thank you to the Estates Team in Grangegorman for all their support in making this happen. Thank you also to Melda Slattery and the Public Affairs team for the support in promoting the event.
