The European University of Technology Welcomes A Ninth Member: UNICAS Joins the EUt+ Alliance

Published: 5 Sep, 2023

The Università degli Studi di Cassino e del Lazio Meridionale (UNICAS), strategically located in Italy between Rome and Naples, will officially join the European University of Technology (EUt+) alliance on 1 November 2023, marking the start of the 4-year EUt+ deployment phase.

The European Universities project, a flagship initiative of the European strategy for universities, supports 60 European Universities alliances that will fully embody the vision of Europe. In line with this aim, the European Commission recently opened calls for new applications and current partnerships willing to expand and welcome a new member.

EUt+ has now opened its doors to a ninth member, UNICAS, to maintain the geographical balance in Europe and the diversity and complementarity of EUt+ members. UNICAS was chosen because the University strongly focuses on science, technology and engineering and shares the EUt+'s values of humanism, boldness, openness and ethics.

Marco dell'Isola, Rector of UNICAS, says: "We will become the Italian campus of EUt+”.

The established ability of UNICAS researchers, particularly from the two engineering departments, to attract funding for outstanding national and international projects, together with strong activity in technological transfer, make UNICAS a truly global district for Education, Research and Public Engagement.

To support this new member as it integrates into a constantly evolving initiative, EUt+ is developing a clear 3-year strategy. With the integration of this 9th partner and the entry into the deployment phase, the construction of the European University, EUt+, continues with determination. The European Commission's confidence in the EUt+ initiative is demonstrated by the fact that it has been awarded a second grant of €14.4 million over 4 years to support this new step.

Timothée Toury, Secretary General of the Alliance, states, “Our application is carrying a strong vision, based on our first 3 years of experience in development and organisation. It was clearly recognised by the experts, who awarded EUt+ the astounding score of 96/100 for its proposal to the 2023 European Universities Initiative call.”
