TU Dublin Second Year BSc Accounting & Finance Students, Christian MacLachlan, David Milner, Fazil Velijev and Sean Lee won the prestigious KPMG Create to Escape Challenge last Friday.
Over 180 teams applied, and TU Dublin was one of the three teams selected to present. After a full day of interactive workshops and presentations, they completed the challenge in the quickest time becoming the overall winners and claiming a prize of €2,000. The challenge itself was a case study based on taxation of an aircraft leasing company.
KPMG has also collaborated with TU Dublin in 2020 by awarding the highest placed students in Accounting & Finance First Year programme with prizes and a unique opportunity by offering them a Summer Internship in their penultimate year. The two highest places students were Wan-Qi Pung and Alice Burleigh who were awarded their prizes on a congratulatory call with KPMG in late November.
Assistant Head of School, Seán O’Reilly said, “We are delighted with the new collaboration with KPMG who is an incredible firm and that they are in a position to offer the highest placed students an internship which is a fantastic opportunity for any future accountant. In relation to the KPMG Create to Escape Challenge, we are extremely proud of the team, and this further showcases the strength of the undergraduate programme in Accounting & Finance. The College of Business prides itself on our case study methodologies, and this victory highlights the benefits of such teaching.”
Emily Merrells, Student Programmes Recruitment Lead- KPMG Ireland commented on the win ''We are delighted that the TU Dublin student team – Christian MacLachlan, David Milner, Fazil Velijev, and Sean Lee, won KPMG’s 2020 Create to Escape Challenge. Christian, David, Fazil, and Sean superbly navigated an Aircraft Leasing and Tax case against other student teams, to become the first-ever winners of the challenge. Our warmest congratulations to them!''
Big congratulations to Christian, David, Fazil and Sean for their victory and to Wan-Qi and Alice for achieving first place on their programme and to their mentor Seán and Year Tutor Irene for all the support.
