WLHE Network Connect for Coffee on International Women’s Day - Choosing to Celebrate the Small Wins

26 Apr, 2021

Over 100 colleagues from across the University joined a webinar hosted by the Women Leaders in Higher Education (WLHE) Network to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Special Guest Speakers at the event were Leisha McGrath, Chartered Work and Organisational Psychologist and Coach and Margaret Masterson, Executive Coach and HR Consultant, who spoke to the theme - Choose to Celebrate the Small Wins.

Dr Ciara Ahern opened the virtual event by welcoming all participants and provided an overview of the WLHE Network and what the Network has achieved to date*.

The seamless conversation between Leisha and Margaret created an atmosphere of engagement and participation. Participants were encouraged to find ways to support and resource themselves and to look to their future selves. Leisha and Margaret shared the importance of celebrating small wins and successes at the end of each day.  The WLHE network focus on choosing to celebrate small wins aimed to challenge perspectives about what should be valued and prioritised.  Maya Angelo’s quote, Success is about liking yourself, liking what you do and liking how you do it”, underpinned the theme of the conversation. A key goal of the WLHE ‘connect for coffee’ events is to stay connected with our support networks. Colleagues achieved this in a virtual environment by actively participating throughout the session by asking questions and sharing experiences.

Dr Claire McDonnell closed the event with a roll call of role models who featured at our WHLE Network events to date, which is available at this link.

The WLHE Network look forward to welcoming you to our next WLHE Network event to be scheduled on Tuesday, 15th June 2021, on the theme of Making the leap! Choosing to challenge the status quo featuring EU Commissioner Mairead McGuinness.
