The Radio Frequency Technology Centre (RFTC) within the Department of Electronic Engineering is led by Brian Keogh and has a ten-year track record of applied RF research. The main research focus is on the optimisation of radio frequency circuits. Following an equipment research grant from Enterprise Ireland (EI) in 2007, the RFTC developed industrial links with local companies in the mobile and wireless sector. The RFTC has significant research infrastructure located in the TU Dublin - Tallaght Campus Synergy Centre.

This includes a large RF anechoic chamber donated by Fijowave Ltd and RF modelling toolsets donated by Keysight Technologies under their university donation programme. Two EI funded Innovation Partnership projects with Global Security Devices resulted in the design of advanced highly efficient and competitive wireless products. 

A number of EI Innovation Voucher projects with Fijowave Ltd. focused on zero maintenance energy scavenging ultra-low power radio front ends. 

Three M.Eng research graduates have successfully completed their studies in recent years. One of these graduates, Kansheng Yang, continued to PhD level with the DIT Antenna and High Frequency Research Group ( and is currently collaborating on a research project. The RFTC has developed strong links with the UCD RF & Microwave research group, managed by Professor Anding Zhu  ( This UCD research group are currently providing academic support to one IT Tallaght lecturer, Mr Brian Keogh, who is studying for a PhD award, supervised by Professor Zhu. 

A recent joint paper with UCD was accepted by the Royal Irish Academy at the 2017 Radio Science Colloquium. There is currently one full time Masters student in the group. This student, supervised by Dr. Mohammad Jamshidi, is researching optimisation algorithms to improve spectral efficiency in future generation radio systems.
