Public Invited to Take Part in National Study on Lighting Effects and Wellbeing

Researchers from TU Dublin, University College Cork, and the National Parks and Wildlife Service supported by Ireland’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are inviting members of the public to participate in a new National Survey examining how modern lighting affects human health, wildlife, and the environment. The initiative, known as the Blu-RAY Project, aims to build a clearer understanding of the impacts of artificial lighting, particularly light sources with high blue-light content.

As lighting technologies evolve, LED lighting has become increasingly common in homes, workplaces, and outdoor environments. While these systems offer energy saving benefits, scientists have highlighted the need for more research into the potential effects of blue rich lighting on sleep, wellbeing, and ecosystems. The Blu-RAY project seeks to address this knowledge gap by gathering public perspectives and experiences with everyday lighting.

All adults are invited to complete a short, anonymous online survey, which takes approximately 15 minutes and has been designed in accordance with TU Dublin’s ethical research principles. Participation is open to everyone, regardless of background or expertise. Public involvement will greatly enhance the reach and value of the project’s findings.
