Research

Technological advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and automation are transforming the way we live, work, and interact. Machines with human-like attributes—such as agency, creativity, and cognition- are reshaping societies at every level. While sociology has traditionally focused on human relationships, these rapid developments call for a "new sociology of humans and machines". This emerging field is essential to understanding how humans and intelligent systems co-exist, collaborate, and transform society.

SOHAM, the TCD-TU Dublin Joint Centre for the Sociology of Humans and Machines, is dedicated to this emerging field. Our multidisciplinary research, at the intersection of social sciences, computer science, mathematical sciences, humanities, and even medical sciences, will explore how humans and intelligent systems can co-exist, collaborate, and drive societal change.
