Satellite imagery has become more available in recent years, especially from Landsat and Sentinel project web sites. These images could be crucial in assisting humanitarian efforts in areas affected natural disasters in order to assess for example damage to shore lines after a flood event. However, satellite imagery, though freely available, is typically affected by cloud coverage and cloud shadowing. Various techniques since try to improve on usage of satellite imagery affected by cloud coverage and shadowing, such as for example fMask in 2012. This project aims to develop new data analytics and image processing techniques in order to leverage the full potential of this freely available satellite data.
