Module Overview

IT Management

This module covers the range of IT systems and IT management systems that are used within organisations. It introduces the students to basic strategic formulation and implementation and how to evaluate an enterprise system’s ability to formulate and implement different strategic objectives. The aim of this module is to provide students with knowledge of the purpose design of IT systems and how to align the two IT systems to organisational strategies.

  • IT systems in the Organisation: Describe common types and application areas: e.g. database systems, ERP systems, decision support systems, Internet/intranet/extranet systems and client server systems.
  • • Strategic Management: A description of how organisations formulate, implement strategies.

    • Strategic Information systems: Evaluate how data warehousing, data mining and OLAP are used to derive information critical to strategic formulation.

    • Enterprise System architecture requirements: a description of the major critical factors used to evaluate different IT system architectures.

    • Discussion on the four major types of IT system platforms: T.P.S., M.I.S. D.S.S. and E.S.S.

    • Organisational enterprise system processes, including supply chain related processes, customer relationship management; finance and human resources and IT infrastructure.

    • Discussion on the importance of team work in IT management.

    • Discussion on the ethical issues on the management and utilisation of emerging IT systems including smart objects and the internet of things.

This module can be delivered either through standard delivery or blended delivery. 

In standard delivery this module is delivered through a series of lectures with associated practical assignments. 

In blended delivery this module is delivered through a series of live and recorded lectures with associated laboratory work and practical assignments. 

Both blended and standard delivery have the same overall number of teaching and self-directed learning hours.
