This module will enable students to define the diverse criteria that influence the success or failure of the complicated process of designing interactive and/or multimedia projects. Candidates will implement design standards and values explored in the Design Principles module but with a greater emphasis on the visual/graphical creation and design (i.e. using Photoshop, Illustrator, et al). Candidates will consider practices in non-screen media as well as selected computer-based examples that exemplify the best practice in design and usability.
This module will broaden students’ knowledge of visual design as well as the integration of the precepts of software design architectonics, giving them confidence to look beyond the workspace of their computer screens to other design media for inspiration when producing their own projects. It will create awareness and appreciation of how design exists and operates in other non-computer-based media, encouraging students to assimilate various design ideas, practices and concepts for their own use. However, the ultimate test will still be user-centered. Stringent HCI and usability requirements will always inform framework of their design strategies and rationales.

Requirements for Screen
From colour, font and legibility – typeface and interface, control layout, and visual metaphors, to controlling the denotative and the connotative aspects of design. All while understanding the user experience of on-screen visual presentation
Usability and Emotion
Usability and attractiveness beyond usability
Seminars will be used for students to present their own research on specific topics .
Individual projects will be used for students to present personal approaches to the essential concepts, and group projects will encourage collaboration and discussion of diverse design criteria.
Lectures will be used to introduce concepts and criteria.
