This module aims to provide an introduction to the concepts and techniques of information design and modelling, as it relates to the development of mobile/tablet applications and games. The module will use a series of case studies based on practical scenarios to illustrate the role of the user and the practicalities of their interactions with a software system. By the end of the module, candidates are expected to be able to model the basic data and functionality required by an application or game.
User scanrios
Examining and creating competent user scenarios
User Roles
Examining and designing competent user roles
User Interactions
Understanding basic user interactions in systems
Systems and workflows
Examining existing systems and workflows
Data Models and function lists
Examining existing data models and function lists
Development planning and Functional prioritisation
Examining and creating development plans and functional prioritisation
This module will combine taught content with group-based tasks to analyse example systems. Scenario development will be delivered by team members for peer review, whilst user modelling and workflow planning will form the basis of an individual mid-term assignment. Further group tasks will consider how to derive a data model for an example system, with a final individual assignment demonstrating how to specify functionality based on this data.
