Science underpins many of the major industrial sectors and employers in Ireland, from pharmaceutical, biotechnology and healthcare to agri-food and the green economy. A recent review of employment opportunities in Ireland by Forfás found that science will be at the core of our future skills needs.

This general science course is ideal if you are not yet sure which science discipline you wish to pursue. It will give you a broad education in first year that will allow the maximum possible choice in future years.

You’ll gain an understanding of fundamental scientific and mathematical principles; develop basic theoretical and technical skills in biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics; be able to analyse and interpret a range of physical, chemical and biological data; be able to begin applying the scientific technique in analysing and solving problems, and understand the role and responsibilities of a scientist in society.

You can apply to enrol into Year 2 of the following 10 participating BSc (Hons) courses:

You will be expected to meet the minimum requirements for transfer to one of the above Level 8 courses. The normal minimum requirement is to pass all modules taken.

Note: Every effort is made to accommodate student preferences, but entry to the listed courses may not be guaranteed. If a course is oversubscribed, the places are allocated on the basis of academic performance in stage 1 of the course.

Study Abroad Opportunities
There are opportunities to study abroad in the second and subsequent years in all of the courses listed above.

Postgraduate Study
On graduation, you may continue to postgraduate study at TU Dublin or elsewhere.

Note: Students will not under any circumstances transfer into Year 2 of: TU867 BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science, TU874 BSc (Hons) Mathematical Sciences, TU857 BSc (Hons) Computer Science (Infrastructure), TU873 BSc (Hons) Industrial Mathematics, TU870 BSc (Hons) Human Nutrition and Dietetics, TU871 BSc (Hons) Optometry, TU872 BSc (Hons) Public Health Nutrition, TU856 BSc (Hons) Computer Science, TU868 BSc (Hons) Clinical Measurement Science, TU858 BSc (Hons) Computer Science (International), TU944 BSc (Hons) Culinary Science, TU869 BSc (Hons) Environmental Health.
On graduation, you may proceed to postgraduate studies leading to the award of MSc, MPhil or PhD at research institutes and universities worldwide.
