Applicants for this programme should have a minimum IELTS (Academic Version) English Proficiency of 6 overall (or equivalent) with nothing less than 5.5 in each component.

Tourism is one of the world’s largest industries worldwide and is forecasted to be one of the fastest-growing global sectors, with exciting career opportunities.

This programme focuses broadly on business and management subjects and more specifically on digital tourism marketing, to reflect the changing needs of the industry in light of technological advances.

A suite of modules has been designed on the marketing and management of tourism enterprises such as visitor attractions, destination management companies, tour operators, travel agencies, hotels, conference centres and management bureaux.

You’ll acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of tourism and marketing practices, gaining an understanding of the operation of the tourism industry and the use of digital tools for tourism marketing.

Work Placement

There is a six-month work placement in Year 3. The programme offers students excellent networking opportunities so that they can make potentially career-opening contacts.

Study Abroad Opportunities

You’ll have the opportunity to study abroad as part of the Erasmus programme. Our students have undertaken exchanges in partner universities in France, Germany, Austria, Spain, the Netherlands, Hungary and Finland. Many of our partners offer study programmes through English.

The programme is designed to enable graduates to gain employment in challenging positions in tourism marketing and sales roles. Graduates with marketing competence and digital expertise can expect to find employment in marketing in tourism enterprises such as tourism co-operatives, national and regional tourism organisations, hotels, visitor centres, online booking companies, travel sector, self-employment, technology management, community development, and public sector support.

In addition, there are opportunities for graduates in consultancy, research and postgraduate education.

"In my 4 years studying Tourism Marketing, these opportunities proved to be endless;  The opportunity to study in a small environment encouraged me to think on my feet, become a team leader and build on my confidence on both a personal and professional level.   The access to industry, top class lecturers made studying relatable and practical and encouraged participation, The classroom environment allowed for lots of access to lecturers time. In my 3rd year of study, I opted to do a professional placement which allowed me to put my day to day learnings into practice within the corporate world, this placement was a highlight of my degree and solidified my ambition to make a successful career in the Tourism industry, This ambition is still true, where today I am working as Marketing Director for an award winning hotel technology provider; Net Affinity".

Hollie Mc Hugh, graduated 2009. Marketing Director, Net Affinity

"The course that I choose was my first option in the list and I was extremely happy when I noticed that I was admitted. I choose it because it gives to students a complete formation in many modules and because tourism together with the marketing world is my passion. The best thing is the constant interactions with the lectures that help you more and the practices activities that I personally love because they can really prepare you for the future."

Agostina Pia Di Bari, Year 2 student.

"I really didn’t know what I wanted to study when I finished my leaving cert and decided to place Tourism & Marketing on my CAO as it would give me a broader range of opportunities after I graduated....it has been the best decision I ever made. I have had the privilege of working with big brand names such as Best Western International, Aer Lingus and am currently working with the largest online travel agent in the world, Expedia Group. I could not recommend this course more, especially given the wide range of opportunities available to you once you have completed the course. . I can say it is pretty amazing to work within the travel and tourism industry and this degree has definitely opened the gates to endless opportunities for me.   "

Sandra Sutton, graduated 2011, Area Manager, Expedia

On graduation you may continue to postgraduate study at TU Dublin.
