TU Dublin has a proud tradition of supporting early-stage Entrepreneurs and Startups. On each of our 3 main campuses (Blanchardstown, Grangegorman & Tallaght), we have Incubation Centres which provide services to aspiring entrepreneurs and startups. These include advice & guidance, training and office facilities.

If you have an idea for a business but are not sure how to start, please contact us for an informal discussion. There are many different types of support which may be available to you - through TU Dublin, your Local Enterprise Office, Enterprise Ireland or other organisations and business accelerators.

Starting a business can be complex and when looking for advice, there are some standard pieces of information that you may be asked to supply as part of an application form for any support (whether financial or educational). You may not have all the answers yet, but it is good to know and understand what is meant by ‘Business Model’, ‘Value Proposition’, etc.

So, we’ve put together a series of short videos to outline some of the information you will need to be thinking about when discussing your startup needs.

A high-level summary of the business. It outlines what is the product or service; why customers would want to buy it; how the product/service is delivered and how the business makes money.

The Revenue Model focusses on how the business will make money and the costs that will be incurred in running the business.

This is one of the critical aspects which will determine if your business is successful – why will people buy from you?

 

It’s important to understand how your customers are grouped – that is your ‘market’ and what are its characteristics?

There are always competitors in every business, but how do you recognise them?

 

Is your idea innovative and does it have real value?

How could you deliver your product or service to your customers? What will be the best option?

It's important to set credible goals and measure the right things if your business is to grow.

What is your ambition for the business and what are the major steps in achieving it.

What is a founder and why do people keep asking about them?
