What is the Student Counselling Service

The TU Dublin Student Counselling Service offers free, confidential counselling appointments to the students of TU Dublin. We are staffed by a team of fully qualified psychologists, psychotherapists and assistant psychologists.  We are open Monday - Friday from 9am -1pm and 2pm - 5pm.

Our service offers one-to-one counselling, group therapy programs and events throughout the year. We offer our services both online and face-to-face.

We also act as supporters for students completing free self-help psychoeducational programmes on Silvercloud. Silvercloud is based on cognitive behaviour therapy and provides information, tools and tips to manage a range of common mental health difficulties such as anxiety, depression, resilience, sleep, body image, social anxiety, stress, panic, money worries etc. Please contact us if you are interested in signing up to Silvercloud.

At any point in our lives, we may experience periods of feeling low or depressed. We can reach out for ways to cope that may not help. If you find that you’re not coping with the demands of college and feel stressed and worried about life, don’t feel that you have to cope alone. For support or assistance, make an appointment with your local counselling team who’ll be glad to help.

Counselling provides you with a safe, non-judgmental space to talk about and discuss any concerns you may have. All students are offered an Initial Assessment Appointment with a member of the counselling team, where their needs are assessed and a range of options will be explored. In addition to any mental health issues, you can talk about personal problems or academic concerns with the counsellor. Counselling is a confidential service and the nature and terms of the confidentiality will be explained to you when you first attend the service.

Common issues that bring students to counselling include:

  • Stress or Anxiety
  • Academic Difficulties
  • Relationship Difficulties
  • Depression or Mood Difficulties
  • Grief or Bereavement
  • Homesickness or Loneliness
  • Sexual / Personal Identity Issues
  • Assault or Abuse
  • Self-Harm
  • Addiction or Substance Use
  • Low Confidence or Self-Esteem

Counselling is available in Irish as well as English. If you would like to speak to a counsellor in Irish, please email counselling.service@tudublin.ie. Tá comhairleoireacht le fáil as Gaeilge. Más maith leat caint le comhairleoir as Gaeilge, cuir r-phost chuig counselling.service@tudublin.ie, led' thoil.

We would ask that you please let us know in the event that you cannot attend a scheduled appointment so that the appointment may be offered to another student.
