Hydrodynamics

This project investigates three main research components:  1. Assess the existing hydrometric network and associated information for small catchments; 2. Evaluate the water balance dynamics of a number of selected small catchments using mathematical models.  3. Make recommendations on the need for additional monitoring of small catchments.

The outputs from this project will input directly into current and future water resources management in Ireland. The feasibility of up-scaling the knowledge gained from a study of small scale catchments to large scale catchments, will contribute to the understanding of such issues as water resource abstraction, groundwater recharge and the impacts of future climate change.

This project is funded under the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 2013 Research Call, under the  Science, Technology, Research & Innovation for the Environment (STRIVE) Programme.
