Automotive Electrical and Electronic Systems 1

This module is designed to introduce the student to the fundamentals of electrical and electronic principles and their application in automotive vehicles.   
This module provides the student with a rudimentary understanding of electrical and electronic arrangements used within automotive technology in support of the Programmes practical related modules.

Electrical theories: electron theory, alternating and direct current, magnetism / electromagnetism /relationship between magnetism and electricity, induction, conductors, semiconductors, insulators, Semiconductors, diodes, thermistors, transistors, integrated circuits, definitions and laws, introduction to networking.

Circuits: Series Circuits, Parallel Circuits, Parallel Circuit Resistance, Series-Parallel Circuits, Ohm's law Watts law, Kirchhoff's law, Automotive circuit examples - light / relay, electricity measurements, safety considerations. 

Electrical and Electronic components: switch's, relays, fuses, wiring, solenoids, motors, actuators, resistors, diodes, transistors, sensors, lights, wiring diagrams.
Charging system: 12volt batteries - Lead Acid, Gel Cell, Enhanced Flooded, AGM, AC Generator Operation, Starter Motor operation.

Auxiliary Systems: lighting, signalling, wiping, locking, comfort and safety systems. 

Vehicle Electrification: Safety considerations and dangers, Automotive High / low voltage ranges, electric vehicle identification.

The emphasis will consistently be related to current automotive technological applications.
