Automotive Workshop Practice 1

This module is designed to give the student a practical understanding of sustainable automotive technologies in a modern repair workshop environment. This module introduces the students to automotive workshop best practices and demonstrate modern vehicle technical operating systems in support of the Programmes theory related modules

Health and Safety: Health & Safety Authority Ireland automotive workshop regulations, Manufacture guidelines, Hybrid and Battery Vehicle high voltage safety, Hazardous and corrosive materials.

Vehicle configuration Layout: front-wheel, rear-wheel, four-wheel, all-wheel drive, power train layout. Steering, suspension and braking system main components and layouts. Body types and identification numbers. Front wheel alignment (toe) measurement with mechanical Dunlop type gauges.

Assemble, measure and test low voltage electrical circuits and their related components. Power supply, fuse, switch, relay, bulb, diodes, and resistors. Series, parallel and series parallel circuits.

Discover layout of Hybrid Electric Vehicle and Battery Electric Vehicle main components. 

Carry out vehicle health check and explain different types.

Auxiliary Systems: charging system, starter, lighting, signalling, wiping, locking, comfort and safety systems.

This module will be delivered by way of practical demonstrations in an automotive workshop and interactive lectures / tutorials. The learner will be given hands-on experience during the module to reinforce the learning where appropriate.
