Low emission Internal Combustion Engines - direct injection petrol and common rail diesel engine, electronic control, sensors, actuators. Use relevant test equipment. Apply all relevant health and safety regulations. Pre/post-heat system, Exhaust Gas Recirculation, Post-combustion control - diesel Particulate filter, Selective Catalytic Reduction.

Diagnostics using test equipment, multimeter, amp clamp, oscilloscope, computerised 4-wheel alignment, brake testing. Consultation and of manufacture workshop repair methods.

Compare drivetrain, chassis and active safety: Classify the correct operation of transmission, steering, suspension, braking system (Electronic Stability Programme).

Automotive body electronic auxiliary and Communication networks (LIN, CAN, MOST) systems. Oscilloscope trace, voltage and resistance measurements, wiring and module discovery, MOST fibre optic cable inspection.

HVAC system identification and component location/discovery. Refrigerant & lubrication types and capacities. Refrigerant recovery, recycle, recharge. System leak detection, temperature measurements. System efficiency testing.

Diagnostic tools and applications: On-board diagnostics and communication protocols, vehicle communication interfaces, vehicle software updates, fault codes. Interpret vehicle live data and parameters.
