Module Overview

Industrial Automation

The module will cover industrial Automation at the device and control level. The areas to be covered will include distributed control systems, the construction and operating characteristics of a range of electrical motors. It will also include programming industrial computers using IEC standards including motion and position control of motors. This module will include an introduction to the advanced processes and techniques of vacuum, mass flow control and the bioreactor. This module will offer the learner a real appreciation of how actuation and control is achieved in real industry relevant situations. The main aims of this module are (1)To enable learners to design, develop, and implement automation systems. (2)To enable learners assess the efficacy of their solutions. (3)To develop awareness of good practice, safety, and the environment.
