Module Overview

Automotive Engineering Technology Project

The aim of this module is to equip a learner with the skills and knowledge necessary for functioning independently as an automotive engineering technologist at ordinary degree level, which involves preparing the learner for life-long learning, further self-directed study or an appropriate higher-level formal programme.

This module facilitates and requires the learner to integrate their study modules to date, expand their knowledge base through self-directed research, and apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired to completing an appropriately challenging automotive related project in a fixed period.

This is an individual (sometimes, a group) project involving self-directed learning and independent research. It requires self-discipline and an ability to plan, schedule, resource, and manage one’s time efficiently, and in cooperation with others (Superviser, other students), in order to complete an agreed automotive related project and present the results publicly and in a written report. Project types have the following categories:

  1. Technical Investigation                                      (4)  Build and Test
  2. Research and Design                                           (5)  Software Application
  3. Design and Build

Learners are encouraged to make their own choice of project provided always that it leads to the learning outcomes and is therefore approved.

The project undertaken as part of this module will be executed as continuously agreed task work, including (where relevant) a combination of self-directed learning, reading, individual research, computer-based learning, problem-solving exercises, applied lab work, compilation of technical report, and presentation of results etc. It will be facilitated by one-to-one sessions with a Superviser/Tutor on a weekly basis.
