Automotive Technology 3

This module will develop the student knowledge of drivetrain, passive safety and diagnostic tooling technology attained in Automotive Technology 1 and 2. 
This module advances the student understanding of modern steering and suspension, active and passive safety systems and automotive diagnostic tooling in support of the Programmes practical related modules.

Electronic Stability Programme: wheel speed sensors, brake pressure sensor, steering wheel angle sensor, YAW / Triple sensor, Traction Control, Driver Assistance Braking Systems, Hill Descent Control, Hill Hold / Start Control, Cornering Brake Control

Petrol direct injection: electronic management, sensors and actuators. Fuel injection control; Stratified, homogeneous mix. Emission Control Systems: gas analysis and regulation. Auxiliary systems. 

Automatic and Automated transmission and transaxle overview. Automated, Direct Shift / Dual-Shaft, Continuously Variable and Automatic transaxle and transmission systems. 

Diesel emission control devices: Pre / post-heat system, Exhaust Gas Recirculation, Post-combustion control - diesel Particulate filter, Selective Catalytic Reduction, Smoke test analysis regulation. 

Multi-wheel / four-wheel steering arrangements on light and heavy vehicles. Active and semi-active adaptive suspension systems; Adaptive air suspension and electro-hydraulic.

Explain the basic principles of Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems. Explain the purpose and function of Air Conditioning components and controls.

A range of approaches will be utilised including lectures, tutorials, audio visual web-based aids, group discussions, presentations, case studies.
Revision assessments will be introduced throughout the module to reinforce learning.
The emphasis will consistently be related to current automotive technological applications
