Module Overview

Fundamental Biology

This module is designed to introduce basic concepts of biology and biological principles to the student. It will focus on core topics of biology including: cell and molecular biology, genetics, metabolism and the structure of tissues. The student will also be introduced to practical skills used in the biology laboratory.

This 10 ECTS module will prepare the student for more advanced studies in cell biology, molecular biology and biochemistry in year 2 of the Biosciences programme.

This module aims to deliver an interactive, student-focused approach to first year biology, including peer learning activities that focus on the module discipline.
