Module Overview

Near Patient Testing

This module will provide an overview of the development, design and potential application of Near Patient Testing (NPT), building on the topics covered in the Biosensor and Bio-product development module in stage three. The module will also cover the development and use of in-vitro diagnostic medical devices, pre-clinical analysis and validation of NPT. The development of array and biochip assays will be explored in addition to the miniaturisation and use of microfluidics in the design of Near Patient tests and devices. Emerging trends and technologies in NPT will be explored. Students will engage in discussion around the future of NPT and its role in enabling the progression of personalised medicine and the impact of NPT on global health, with a focus on low-resource settings and sustainability goals.
