French PLC 1a

This module is designed for students who have studied the language to Leaving Certificate or equivalent. It aims to revise and consolidate the four language skills acquired at second level, to introduce the language of business and to broaden learners’ knowledge of France and the French-speaking countries.

The development of Listening and Speaking skills

Understanding and using phrases and sentences related to a range of personal and professional situations.

The development of Reading and Writing skills

Reading and finding information in texts dealing with everyday material such as advertisements, prospectuses, menus, timetables and short, personal letters. Writing simple interconnected texts on everyday aspects of the student’s environment.

Life in contemporary French-speaking countries

Interactive hour with a focus on the target culture: Physical and political geography Cities

Learning and teaching will take place through the use of lectures, presentations and role plays exercises in the module. In addition to using text based material, students will be expected to make extensive use of relevant websites, external online audio and video resources referred throughout the course.
