This module is designed for students who have studied the language to Leaving Certificate or equivalent. It aims to further develop the four language skills acquired at second level, to introduce additional elements of the language of business and to broaden learners’ knowledge of Germany and the German-speaking countries.

Understanding and using phrases and sentences related to a range of personal and professional situations.
Ongoing: The development of reading and writing skills
Reading and finding information in texts dealing with everyday material such as hotel literature, advertisements, prospectuses, menus, timetables and short, personal letters. Writing simple interconnected text on everyday aspects of the student’s environment. Writing an email to confirm a booking.

Topic 2: Business language
• Basic phone skills• Making travel arrangements
Topic 3: Grammar and Structures
• Perfect tense – regular, irregular, modal, separable verbs• Imperfect tense – regular, irregular, modal, separable verbs• Future tense – regular, irregular, modal, separable verbs• Negation• Reflexive verbs
Topic 4: Life in contemporary German-speaking countries
Interactive hour with a focus on the target culture• Learning about contemporary culture and society through film.
