This module is designed to develop the student’s language proficiency in particular in the area of advertising, marketing and product presentation. It also explores themes relating to culture and society in the French-speaking world.
The development of Listening and Speaking skill
Identifying specific information in TV and Internet advertisements. Expressing and giving reasons for opinions. Preparing a product/company presentation in the target-language. Developing oral and aural skills through practising the language of telephone conversations.
The development of Reading and Writing skills
Reading more challenging texts consisting mainly of high frequency everyday and job-related language. Identifying specific information in text-based advertisements. Writing simple emails.
Business Language
Advertising and marketing products in the French-speaking market Product and company presentations Making contact with a company Telephone skills: making and changing appointments, giving excuses.
Grammar and Structures
Revision of Tenses + Introduction of Conditional with common verbs Interrogative forms - Indirect Personal Pronouns - Demonstrative adjectives.
Life in contemporary French-speaking countries
Aspects of French culture and society, to include important dates throughout the year, will be studied through the use of written text, film and Internet resources.
Learning and teaching will take place through the use of lectures, presentations and role plays exercises in the module. In addition to using text based material, students will be expected to make extensive use of relevant websites, external online audio and video resources referred throughout the course.
