This module is designed to develop the student’s language proficiency in particular in the area of advertising, marketing and product presentation. It also explores themes relating to culture and society in the German-speaking world.

Ongoing: developing listening and speaking skills

Identifying specific information in TV and Internet advertisements; Expressing and giving reasons for opinions;Preparing a product/company presentation in the target-language;Developing oral and aural skills through practising the language of telephone conversations.

Ongoing: developing reading and writing skills

Reading more challenging texts consisting mainly of high frequency everyday and job-related language;Identifying specific information in text-based advertisements; Writing simple emails.

Topic 1: Business Language

Advertising and marketing products in the German-speaking market;Product and company presentations;Making contact with a company;Telephone skills: making and changing appointments, giving excuses.

Topic 2: Grammar and structures

Overview of cases;Possessive adjectives;Demonstratives;Pronouns and cases

Topic 3: Life in contemporary German-speaking countries

Aspects of German culture and society, to include important dates throughout the year, will be studied through the use of written text, film and Internet resources.
