The module is designed for students who have a foundation in business language and focusses on the skills needed for participation in a trade fair. It also aims to develop general language proficiency and to deepen students’ understanding of aspects of contemporary life in the French-speaking countries.
The development of Listening and Speaking skills
Developing the skills to deal with the main situations likely to arise at a trade fair in France, from visiting a stand to greeting clients and dealing with queries about products and services. Following the main points of a TV programme and film, narrating the plot and giving opinions.
The development of Reading and Writing skills
Understanding and preparing documentation for participation in a trade fair. Understanding and identifying the main points in a text. Learning the conventions of essay and summary writing and how to paraphrase information in own words. Reporting and giving own opinion on factual information.
Business Language: Trade Fairs
Organising business travel Organising meeting with clients at trade fair Preparing and understanding business cards Product descriptions and presentations Company profiles Follow-up correspondence
Grammar and Structures
Comparatives - Idiomatic expressions + subjunctive - Verbs + de / à - y / en - Past Participle agreements.
Learning and teaching will take place through the use of lectures, presentations and role plays exercises in the module. In addition to using text based material, students will be expected to make extensive use of relevant websites, external online audio and video resources referred throughout the course.
