  • The focus is on domestic buildings and simple industrial / commercial buildings, and is mainly descriptive, with a strong emphasis on producing and interpreting technical drawings. While students are required to perform some simple design calculations, this module is mainly intended to introduce students to building technology in preparation for design modules in later years of the programme.

The module will include lecture and studio classes.  The lectures will mainly be used for dissemination of technical information in the form of lectures, videos, group work, demonstrations, poster making, discussions, presentations from students and in-class quizzes.  One of the lecture sessions will be used for a practical laboratory session to make concrete. The studio class will be an informal session used to launch each assessment and to give formative feedback individually during the course of each assessment.
