Module Overview

Business and Management

This module introduces the learner to a range of management accounting procedures applicable to manufacturing, and develops the learners’ management, business, and finance knowledge, along with their communication and research skills. The module covers management theory and practice as applicable to a range of manufacturing and service industries. The theory and case studies presented in the lectures, tutorials, and discussions is supported by the learners being required to complete two research assignments, one of which is a group assignment, and present their findings to their peers. This module aims to develop in the learner an understanding of the role and nature of management in a manufacturing organisation and enable the learner to acquire knowledge of organisational decision making processes. It develops self- management and team-working skills, and enables the learner to consider more than the technical perspective when evaluating an engineering product or process.
