Coach Development

This module aims to address coach development frameworks. Coaching development is about the wider strategic environment in which coaching and coaches operate. Its focus is on exploring coaching systems and understanding the components that recruit, develop and retain a coaching workforce. This will incorporate elements such as coach education systems and the support and management of coaches. The module also focuses on individual coach development, specifically on the application and adaption of coaching skills within a range of different and varied environments of specific populations. An understanding of the needs of participants is a key theme within this context.

The indicative module content includes: Coaching Policy, systems, strategy and structure- International, National and local coaching perspectives- Coaching research and evidence based practice- NGB’s, coach education and qualification systems- The coaching workforce – gaining, training, retaining coaches- Developing, sustaining and increasing participation and performance in sport Professional values, behaviours and ethical values Coaching specific populations – practical application- Low socio economic groups / disadvantaged communities o People with disabilities- Black and ethnic minorities- Sport for health- Obese and overweight- Women and girls- The ageing population- Coaching for Performance
