Module Overview

CAD & Energy Performance

In this electronic age of communication and design, the modern technician/engineer must design ‘straight to screen’. This module is designed to build on the students practical I.T skills in the first year of study with respect to drawing in both 2D & 3D and model building within thermal simulation software packages.  This module also introduces the student to Building Information Modelling (BIM)

*Curricular information is subject to change

Introduction to information technology and its role in construction.

Photorealistic model building.  Integration of 2D and 3D drawing formats with simulation software.

Introduction to Building Information Modelling and its applications in design.

Familiarisation with the procedures of EPBD software DEAP, which takes account of the energy required for space heating, ventilation, water heating and lighting, less savings from energy generation technologies.

Interrogation of DEAP software to investigate the most effective energy saving areas (as prescribed by the software)

Explanation of the DEAP calculation procedures and interrogation of results, which produce annual values of delivered energy consumption, primary energy consumption, carbon dioxide emissions and costs

The module will be demonstrated and delivered in computer laboratory via a series of practical assignments over 2 semesters
