The focus of this course is on learning the architecture, components, and operations of routers and switches in a small network. In this module, students will learn how to configure a router and a switch for basic functionality. The learner will configure and troubleshoot basic operations of a small switched network, configure and verify static routing and default routing, configure and troubleshoot basic operations of routers in a small routed network. Students will configure and troubleshoot VLANs and inter-VLAN routing. The learner will also configure DHCP servers.
Introduction to Switched Networks
Identify switched network terminology, identify the switch hardware as well as switch selection criteria.
Basic Switch Configuration
Cable the devices and verify the default switch configuration. Configure basic device settings using the Cisco IOS.
VLANs
Explain the purpose of VLANs in a switched network. Implement VLANs to segment a small-to-medium size network.
Routing Concepts
Describe primary functions and features of a router.Configure initial settings on a router.Configure devices and connectivity on a router.Display router information.
Inter-VLAN Routing
Configure routing between VLANs in a small-to-medium sized business network.Identify the topologies as either legacy, router-on-a-stick, or multilayer switch inter-VLAN types.
Static Routing
Explain the benefits of using static routing. Configure a static route to other networks using next-hop addresses. Configure and verify a static route to a directly connected network using exit interface.
Routing Dynamically
Explain the operation of dynamic routing protocols.
Dynamic RIP routing protocol
Explain the process by which routers learn about other networks using RIP.Configure RIP.Verify configurations and test connectivity.
DHCP - Dynamic Host Control Protocol
Understand the concept of DHCP for IPv4 and IPv6 networks.Configure and verify DHCP for IPv4 and IPv6 on a Cisco router.
