The aim of this module is to provide students with an awareness of the theoretical and practical aspects of well-being and children being confident, happy and healthy. Upon successful completion of the module, students will have an understanding of the concept of identity and its importance in relation to children and a sense of belonging. In the module, students will explore the links between well-being and identity; in particular, focusing on children developing a positive sense of who they are.

Family/Parental Involvement in Early Years
History of parental involvement in early years services nationally and internationally, benefits of parental involvement for children, families and practitioners. strategies for including parents and care-givers, characteristics of successful parental involvement projects, strategies for and benefits of working with whole families.
Development of Self and Gender
Nature Vs Nurture, the role of the family and the environment, the development of self across ages, the role of peers and culture. Lifespan perspectives on development of identity during childhood.
Lectures, tutorials, group/collaborative work, and class discussion. Reading journal articles, book chapters, reports and online materials.
