Legislative Issues for the Early Years

This module aims to develop an awareness and understanding of the Irish legal system and areas of law within it by: Increasing understanding of basic legal principles. Enabling participants to understand the system for the administration of justice in Ireland. Introducing the student to various areas of law and their main features/relevance. Enabling students to understand the legal requirements under the Child Care (Pre-School Services) Regulations. Understand key child protection legislation and health and safety requirements.

Administration of justice and ECCE issues before the Courts.

Child Care (Pre-School Services) Regulations

Content and application.

Criminal Law

Child abuse reporting, withholding information and other Offences against persons and property with particular focus on children.

Family law

Marriage,divorce,separation,civil partnershipand child protection issues.

Constitutional Law

Fundamental rights, Family and children

Employment law

Rights and obligations -conditions of employment and dismissal

Law of Torts

Personal injuries and negligence -workplace accidents and the law,Children and negligence

Business law

Company types and protections

 

This module will be taught through lectures and tutorials and workshops, and students will work within groups and in pairs. Virtual and in-person links with relevant legislative structures and services will be facilitated.
