Dissertation : Early Years Practice Project

Building on the range of skills developed in the previous semester students will test their research or intervention plan by carrying it out in their chosen field of interest. Through guided supervision students will produce an independent project of between 9,000 and 10,000 words.

Intervention planning, implementation and evaluation

Students will be given guidance on project management, the tools to carry out their research project, and approaches to evaluating outcomes.

Regular attendance at supervision meetings

In supervision meetings students will develop an agreed schedule of work. They will also gain the opportunity to discuss their progress with their project and explore some of the difficulties that they have encountered. They will gain the insights of experienced practitioners in the area of Early Childhood Education and Care and receive structured feedback on the progress of their practice project.

Write up a dissertation / practice proje of between 9,000-10,000 words

Guidance on producing a finished document formatted according to academic conventions and with appropriate chapters, list of references, appendices, and abstract.

Students will be scaffolded through the process of dissertation preparation.  Students will be encouraged to develop a community of practice approach in terms of sharing of experiences during the data collection and data processing in particular in relation to practice based research.
