Workshop Practice 2

Continue the students education on a set of practices and related safety precautions in workshop. This gives students the practical and theatrical concepts of bench work, marking out, metal joining (i.e. welding , riveting, mechanical joining), Turing, milling, fabrication and metal forming. Basic visualizing and interpreting industrial engineering drawings.

Engineering workshop theory and practice

General Health and safety precautions in the workshop, Material cutting, Marking out dimensional control, inspection devices, checking and setting suitable features or components using slip gauges, sine bar and other standards, dimension control, work holing, drilling, filling, sawing , riveting, tapping, supplement tools and devices including safety: horizontal band sway machine, sheet metal hand break, hand shear machine, manual metal sheet rolling machine, Hand wrought iron machines and metal craft tools.

Material bonding theory

Covenant bonding, ionic bonding, metallic bonding, property of metal and no-metal, Semi-metals or metalloids, the state of the matter, solidifying and dendritic growth , Crystal patterns and unit cells, Slip in BCC and FCC metals, Line defects in crystals

Turning process

Safety precautions, theory, components and operations of the turning machine cutting tools, cutting parameter: turning processes: parallel turning, facing, taper turning, knurling, parting off etc.. Accurate use of centre drills, twist drills and boring bars. Chip formation and cutting forces.

Milling process

Safety precautions, theory, components and operations of horizontal and vertical milling machine, milling processes, cutting tools, collet and special chuck, clocking the milling machine, conventional and climbing milling, centre finding, cutting data.

Precision Grinding

Surface grinding - for producing flat surfaces, Cylindrical grinding - for producing cylindrical shapes, Internal grinding - for producing internal, grading process, grade of the gridding wheel, workholding, balancing the gridding wheel, dressing the gridding wheel.

Advanced Manufacturing

Manufacturing industries and different types of production environment.Machining Methods: Non-Traditional: Electro Discharge Machining (EDM), Electro ChemicalMachining (ECM). Laser Beam Machining, properties and features of lasers, safety features etc.Design consideration of : Drilling, metal sheet bending, stamping, drawing, blanking and sand casting.
