This aim of this module is to develop a knowledge and understanding of the basics of analog and digital circuits. The student will learn practical skills in the use of common electrical laboratory equipment to test and analyse circuits.
Analog Electronics
Electric charge, current & voltage.
Resistors. Ohm's law, resistors in series and parallel. Kirchoff's laws, loop & mesh analysis.
AC circuits. Capacitors and Inductors, Reactance.
Digital Electronics
Number systems, logic functions, Boolean algebra, minimisation using K-maps. Half and full adders, series and parallel adders. Decoders and encoders. Multiplexors and demultiplexors.
Amplifier Systems
Voltage & current amplifiers. Gain, dB, dBm & dBW. Voltage, current and power gain. The ideal Op-amp. Inverting, non-inverting, summing & difference amplifiers. Integrator. Comparator.
