Project

The project will consist of microcontroller based design with additional ‘add-on’ circuit boards. The microcontroller and ‘add-on’ PCBs will require programs to be executed before they function. The interface boards will be designed by the student using ECAD and appropriate software will be developed to program the hardware using a PC. Projects will be prepared under the supervision of assigned staff to a predetermined format and timescale.Typical project examples:• Glass house monitoring using an Arduino.• Microcontroller based temperature monitoring and controlProduction of a short report to a specified format, including design of PCB layout, design of programs as appropriate. Students will be required to make a verbal presentation of their project. Each Student will be required to produce a web blog page summary of their project.Teamwork elements where appropriate will be encouraged.

Project stages

1. Initial ECAD designs and circuit understanding.2. Bench testing of PCBs3. Aduino shield programming4. Enclosure design and construction5. Software design and implementation 6. Hardware Demonstration and Submission7. Final Report Submission 8. Presentations using Web blog and PowerPoint

The module comprises laboratory work and student self-directed learning.
