Module Overview

Project (part 1)

This module will refresh the learner’s practical project skills and provide an introduction to their final year project. It will bring together in a systematic way the knowledge that the learner is absorbing throughout the year. The learner will be given a project outline and assigned a supervisor. Projects will be of a computer engineering/electronics nature involving hardware and/or software. The learner will be expected to complete the project to a high standard both in electronic skills and documentation. In Project 1 the student will be expected to thoroughly research the area of their project and provide a detailed project plan to implement it over the year. In order to refresh the learner’s practical project skills and to bring them through the stages of PCB design, manufacture, testing and documentation required for their main project, they will under take a computer interfacing exercise during the first few weeks of the laboratory time. This will also be of benefit to learners joining the course from other institutions where skills processes may vary.
