· The law of tort, negligence, redress, common defences, injunctions, mitigation and aggravation of

damages

· The health and safety at work act 2005, duty of employers, employees, visitors, safety statements

· The Construction industry

 

Ethics

· Morals, ethics, laws

· Cannons of Engineers Ireland

· The company and its stockholders, environment, the profession, the public and society

· Backhanders, whistle blowing, patents.

 

Contracts and Procurement

· Contractual relationships, traditional, design and build, management, construction management.

· Admeasurement contracts, lump sum contracts, cost reimbursement contracts.

· First Fix, second fix, commissioning and handover

 

Project Management

· Planning tools, PERT charts, Gantt charts, meetings

· Risk management, assessment and control

· Work breakdown structure.

· Resources, time, product, risk

 

Facilities Management

· Equipment and supplier evaluation; maintainability; maintenance policies; assets registers;

maintenance techniques

Instruction is by means of lectures and coursework assignments. The assignments are designed to closely

follow the lecture material and to assist in developing the student’s confidence and understanding.
