This module aims to provide students with an understanding and application of computerised payroll, integrated accounting software, taxation and Practical CAATs application. This module builds on other modules in semesters 1, 2 and 3, 4 and 5.

Integrated Accounting Software (SAGE; Stock Control and Payroll)

Understanding and using Computerised Accounting Software systems: Sales Ledger, Purchase ledger, General Ledger, Stock Control, Asset Registers, Bank Reconciliation, and Payroll. Type of control and detailed information needed for effective audit trails in an automated business environment. Structuring a computer based General Ledger package for effective management reporting. The role of a Chart of Accounts (CoA); The structuring of the CoA; Code Design and Account structures within a nominal ledger; Best practice and procedures

Computer Assisted Audit Techniques (CAATS)

The changing role of the auditor in the electronic environment. The challenges confronting the auditor e.g. Data Integrity and controls. The use of CAATS in systems testing and substantive audit testing. Types of CAATS commonly in use in auditing. The role of CAATS in the detection of fraud.The challenges facing today’s accountant with the use of CAAT’s.

Payroll Software

Understanding and using Payroll Software: Company set up; Adding employees; terminating employees; processing payroll (including salary, time, bonus and other elements); generating payroll reports incuding P60's and P45's.

Computer Assisted Audit Techniques (CAATs Practice)

Understanding and use of software in performing the audit including: the management of big data; generation of analytical reviews; impacting journal postings on the trial balance; and generation of electronic SOFI and SOFP
