This module is designed for students who have no previous knowledge of the language. It aims to introduce the four language skills and give learners a background knowledge of Germany and the German-speaking countries.
The development of Listening and Speaking skills
Asking and responding to simple questions in areas of immediate relevance; Recognising and using basic phrases relating to self, family and immediate surroundings.
The development of Reading and Writing skills
Reading short simple texts and understanding familiar names, words and basic phrases; Writing a short, simple postcard or email and filling in a form with personal details.

Alphabet / numbers; Asking for and giving personal information; Occupations and Nationalities; Family & relationships; Neighbourhood & Home; My College; Describing your daily routine; Time/Days of the week.
Grammar and Structures
Personal pronouns; Basic word order; Present tense regular and irregular verbs; Present tense modal verbs; Present tense separable/inseparable verbs; Gender; Nominative case; Accusative case; Interrogatives.
Life in contemporary German-speaking countries
Interactive hour with a focus on the target culture. Topics covered will include: Physical and political geography; Cities
