This module is designed for students who have taken one semester of the language and aims to further introduce the four language skills and give learners a background knowledge of Germany and the German-speaking countries.
The development of Listening and Speaking skills
Extending range of simple expressions about personal details and needs of a concrete type; Asking for and responding to simple instructions and requests.
The development of Reading and Writing skills
Producing simple texts, such as a short postcard or email about familiar topics; Reading simple texts on topics of a familiar nature.
Indicative Topics (subject to change depending on course books)
Hobbies and leisure activities; Giving / taking simple instructions and directions; Shopping & eating out; Understanding hotel literature; Booking accommodation; Making travel arrangements; Basic phone skills.
Grammar and Structures
Perfect tense – regular, irregular, modal, separable verbs; Imperfect tense – regular, irregular, modal, separable verbs; Future tense – regular, irregular, modal, separable verbs; Negation; Reflexive verbs.
Life in contemporary German-speaking countries
Learning about contemporary culture and society through film.
