This module will allow students to identify and analyse the main sources of law - legislation, case law and international law - relevant to prisons and prisoners’rights. The module will also explore the approach to prisons and prisoners’ rights in Irish law, the ECHR, as well other international legal instruments. The module will focus on particular themes across the prison system such as the Irish Penal System and Policy, Prisoner Rights, Prison Administration and Oversight, The Control and Management of Prisoners and Prison Litigation.
