Module Overview

Legal Research Project

The purpose of the LLB (Ling) Legal Research Project is for third year Erasmus students on the LLB Law with a Language Programme to familiarise themselves with and gain an understanding of the basics of the legal system in their host country. The module is self-directed, with guidance provided (at the outset and throughout the year) from an assigned TU Dublin supervisor and the Programme Co-ordinator. While on Erasmus, students will need to keep in touch with their project supervisor in TU Dublin and at the end of each month, update him/her with drafts of the project and any other progress.

Students decide on a topic and are assigned a supervisor in the second term of Year 2, before the Easter break. Each student will have a preliminary meeting with his/her supervisor at the end of Year 2 in person (immediately following the exam period) and at the beginning of Year 3. This Year 3 meeting can be done via skype or similar. Students received ongoing general advice and support via Brightspace.
Students are given a detailed brief for their projects and ‘soft’ deadlines for each section to help them to manage their workload. At the end of each month the student will contact their supervisor with any drafts and/or progress on the project via Brightspace (and email if they wish). The supervisor will respond to the student with any relevant feedback. The final Project of 5,000 words will be due at the end of March of Year 3.
