This module will develop the student's practical skills in API Processing and spectroscopy; Physical & Inorganic Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Microbiology
API Process and Spectroscopy
A series of laboratory practical sessions will be provided to teach the essential skills and techniques of drug API manufacture, monitoring, control, purity determination, quantitative analysis of typical industrial pollutants in waste streams. In addition, pilot plant experiments will be carried out in the Pharmaceutical Plant on campus.
Physical and Inorganic Chemistry
A series of laboratory practical sessions will be provided to teach the essential skills and techniques, in thermodynamics, kinetics, inorganic complex synthesis and characterisation
Pharmaceutical Microbiology
Indicative laboratory practicals include preparation of laboratory media and their sterilisation, assessment of the microbiological quality of water using various techniques, assessment of the microbiological quality of medicines and the environment, assessment of cleanroom standards.
