Mathematics V

This module will develop the learners’ appreciation of, and ability to, apply the concepts, theories and methods of mathematics that underlie the analytical capacity required to progress through an engineering ordinary degree programme.

Solution of equations involving hyperbolic functions. Inverse hyperbolic functions 
 
Parametric differentiation, Radius of curvature. 
 
Statistics and Probability. Central limit theorem. Normal distribution of means. Student t-distribution. Confidence intervals. Hypothesis testing. Type 1 & type II errors. Correlation and regression. Method of Least Squares.  
 
Numerical solution of first order differential equations by Runge-Kutta methods. 

Three one-hour lectures per week. Comprehensive course notes provided. Lecture notes and supplementary material is available to students on WebCourses
